Q. How does this differ from other identity theft services?

A. Identity Defense helps you understand what you are doing today that makes you an easy target for thieves. The reason this crime is so big is the lack of understanding and action on the part of individuals. We focus on stopping the theft before fraud can occur. We think of it as working to prevent a fire rather than focusing on how to put out a fire after it is fully involved.

Q. How does Identity Defense help me?

A. Identity Defense helps you help yourself. Reading through long lists of bullets and tips and endless information on web pages is frustrating especially when it does not focus on you. Identity Defense is all about exactly what you do. We analyze your behavior and pinpoint your exact vulnerabilities.

Q. I already subscribe to a service that monitors my credit. Do I really need to do anything else?

A. All services are different and many focus on a specific area of your identity; they can serve a useful purpose. There are many uses for your personal information other than making charges on your credit cards or obtaining money from your bank account(s). Our quiz will help you to understand all the ways in which your identity could be used. Wouldn’t you rather prevent it from getting to that point to start with?

Q. I have frozen my credit. What else can I do?

A. Plenty, because freezing your credit does not stop a thief from stealing money from an existing account, or using your name for medical purposes or posing as you when commiting a crime. Your credit is only one way you could be victimized. If you don’t look at all the other avenues of potential fraud, statistically you could be a victim and not even know for a long time, because it doesn't show up in your credit!

Q. There are so many places that already contain my information. Can I really stop anything from happening to me?

A: Absolutely, you are in control of much more of your personal information than you recognize. Protecting your personal information is similar to defensive driving -- it won't guarantee that nothing bad will happen, but will greatly reduce the likelihood of a bad event. We now routinely encounter instances of people requesting personal information that they don't really need. And there are people who make a profession out of "dumpster diving" and selling the personal information they find. It is up to you to be sure your personal information is managed as safely as possible.

Q. How can you be sure you can help me reduce my risk of identity theft?

A. Only you can reduce your risk. The more ways you leave yourself vulnerable, the higher the likelihood of you becoming a victim. By you telling us what your personal habits are, we can assess your personal risk based on a proprietary system then give you specifics on what you are doing to expose yourself, and how to correct it.

Q. With all of the data breaches what are my chances of stopping identity theft from happening to me?

A. The reality is over two-thirds of identity theft is preventable in some way. The theft occurred because an individual left themselves exposed and a thief took advantage. Sure there are instances and situations that are beyond your control, but if you knew how to reduce that risk by up to 60%, wouldn’t you be interested in knowing how?
